June 26, 2017 – ARIA Hall of Fame members and Australian legends, The Church, are currently putting the finishing touches on the follow-up to their internationally critically acclaimed last album Further/Deeper (2014). The forthcoming (currently untitled) new release will be their 26th studio album.

The past several years have been wildly successful for the band with performances at Primavera Sound, SXSW, three North American tours and their first European tour in almost a decade. They now return with the brand new single “Another Century.”

“’Another Century’ is a romantic melodic stab of omnichord and guitars and quite unlike any past church song,” singer/bassist Steve Kilbey remarked. “The lyrics fell out of the sky very quickly and the music is dreamy and evocative of past futures.”

Recorded at Rancom St and Spacejunk III, the track was written by The Church (Kilbey, Koppes, Powles, Haug) and produced by the band along with Ted Howard.

The Church will return to the U.S. for a limited run this summer beginning on June 28th in Ann Arbor, MI. The tour will make stops in Cincinnati, Nashville, Chicago, Richmond, Ardmore and Pawling. The band will also perform at this year’s edition of Summerfest in Milwaukee.

Full details about the new album and future touring plans will be announced shortly.

The Psychedelic Furs & The Church Announce “Summer 2016” U.S. Tour

15 Shows Together Beginning On July 15th

April 26, 2016 – Following last year’s sold out jaunt, The Psychedelic Furs and The Church will team up again this summer for 15 shows in North America beginning on July 15th in Flagstaff, AZ and wrapping in Sioux City, IA on August 6th.

Originally from the U.K., The Psychedelic Furs scored major hits with “Love My Way,” “Pretty In Pink,” “Heaven,” “The Ghost In You,” and “Heartbreak Beat,” releasing seven studio albums and several compilations over the course of their career.  Over the past three decades, Furs’ concerts have become must-see events as they continue to sell out venues worldwide.

The Church are touring in support of their 25th studio album, Further/Deeper, which was released in North America last year to rave reviews. 2015 was a wildly successful year for the band with performances at SXSW, Primavera Sound in Spain, two North American tours and their first European tour in eight years.

“Sometimes rock ‘n’ roll has really good double bills where there are two likeminded acts and the audience can go away very happy they got their moneys worth,” The Church’s Steve Kilbey commented. “This is how it is with The Church and Psychedelic Furs I believe; and because the last lot of shows went so well we couldn’t help but want to keep it going.”

Tickets for most shows will go on sale this Friday morning.

“Let Us Go”

“‘Let Us Go’ is a pretty standard Church pop song,” considers frontman Steve Kilbey. “I never really gave it a lot of thought but then a friend of mine asked ‘can I do a video for a song off ‘Further/Deeper’?’ I was surprised when he chose that one and now the song’s become a little something extra. This friend filmed us rehearsing one night in Melbourne and went away and doctored it up. He’d been to South America taking ayahuasca and wanted something of that feeling for the video, that’s why it’s kaleidoscopic and with all the amoebas.”

“Tim (Powles, Church drummer & producer) had some words that he’d written for another song that hadn’t fit in so we incorporated his words into what I was writing. Then he chopped up my words and made me sing them another way around for the verse. That’s something else I don’t do very often – sing somebody else’s words in a song. But I really liked what he had written. And I really believe you can put anything anywhere in music if luck is with you. And as luck would have it, the lyrics I didn’t think were very good for this other song were perfect for this song and gave a great other aspect to it. It was serendipitous.”

“Everything we do has integrity and care and love. It’s never just knock it down. On that album (‘Further/Deeper’) – studded with really amazing songs like ‘Miami’ and ‘Toy Head’ and ‘Lightning White’ – ‘Let Us Go’ is a pretty standard Church song, one of the ones that connects the masterpieces. But I think it’s a great little song. It’s a bit New Romantic-y with that synthesizer, giving a 1980s kind of bounce to it, something we don’t have a lot of. And we haven’t done it a lot live but when we did, it was heading towards a really cool thing at the end.”

The Church kick off an 18-date U.S. tour on April 8th in Dallas. They’ll be playing their classic 1982 album The Blurred Crusade along with highlights from Further/Deeper and other cuts. Leading up to the tour, the ever-prolific Kilbey has been finishing the crowdfunded The Speed Of The Stars album (http://www.pledgemusic.com/projects/speedofthestars), a project he’s been working on since the late 90s with Irish musician Frank Kearns.
